Your one place for this year's plan: the monthly mentor pastor sessions, the homework that goes with them, and who to contact along the way.
Ministry is caught as much as it is taught, which is why this cannot happen in a classroom alone. Each of these eight sessions is led by a pastor speaking from a place where God has genuinely shaped and tested them, not a subject picked because it sounded interesting. Come expecting more than information: expect the kind of honest, hard won wisdom that usually only comes from years in the trenches.
Every mentor pastor chose their topic because it is an area where God has shaped and stretched them, often through failure as much as success. You are getting the lesson without having to pay the full cost of learning it yourself.
Small group teaching and discussion give you room to ask what does not always come up on a Sunday: how to handle conflict, lead your family well, or run a meeting that actually goes somewhere.
The goal is not to finish a checklist. It is to walk into your first years of pastoral ministry having already thought carefully, with people who care about you, through the areas that trip up most young pastors.
What we are building together has the potential to be a genuine gift to you. Come ready to engage, and treat each session like the investment it is.
This year, your commitment to the program comes down to three things. Keep this list somewhere you will actually look at it.
Once a month, the cohort gathers with one of four mentor pastors for a session built around teaching, discussion, and honest reflection from their own experience in ministry. Complete the assigned homework before each session so your time together goes beyond introduction and into real engagement.
Cultivating the inner life of a pastor through personal disciplines, prayer, and sustaining spiritual vitality across the demands of ministry.
Shepherding people through grief, conflict, and crisis, including conflict within the church, and learning to walk with someone well even when the situation is hard and the answers are not simple.
Identifying, developing, and releasing emerging leaders, and building a culture of discipleship and leadership reproduction.
Holding the tensions of ministry and home with integrity: caring for a spouse, parenting faithfully, and maintaining healthy boundaries.
Taking a sermon from text to pulpit across both the Old and New Testaments, with a focus on the discipline of preparation, not just delivery.
Building lifelong habits of theological reading and study that sustain a pastor's intellectual and spiritual growth.
Navigating the practical realities of church governance, financial stewardship, and organizational management without losing pastoral focus.
Running productive, spiritually grounded elder, staff, and congregational meetings that reflect good leadership and biblical values.
Each mentor pastor hosts two sessions across the year. The exact calendar of dates is below and will be filled in once confirmed.
